Antique Japanese pottery embodies centuries of tradition, skill, and cultural significance. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, they reflect the unique aesthetics and techniques of various regions and historical periods in Japan.

‘Shigaraki ware’ is from ‘Shiga’ Prefecture, and is counted as one of Japan’s six oldest kilns (pottery productions).
It started in the middle of the ’Kamakura’ period (1185-1333). There is a wide range of products, ranging from water bottles, tea pots, sake bottles, braziers, flower pots, etc. The ‘Wabi Sabi’ unique to Shigaraki ware has been preserved to this day.

Pale green vertical stripes with a soft-brush stroke on a white background is one of the traditional Shigaraki styles.
The stripes emphasise the curve towards the narrow & small opening, while the simple overall design makes the presence of this Antique pot stand out.
