’Shonai’ is a region in the north of Japan’s main island, where traditionally various furnitures have been made. It is famous for the Shipping Chests, the Merchant Cabinets, and the black-lacquered Kimono Drawers, with the unique heavy metal works.

This Antique Japanese Display Case shows a crisp ‘Zen’ atmosphere, with the impressive curved-up edges on the top plate. They are called ‘hudegaesi,’ which prevents a pen / a brush rolling out of the case.

You will see the craftsmanship and creativity of the artisan of this unique work of art.

There are decorative openings around the top shelf. The one on the back panel is called ‘Karahanabishi (唐花菱),’ a shape of four petal flower. The two on the sides serve also as handles.

It has the dynamic wood grain patterns on its drawers. Paired with the exquisite aged metal knobs, this piece is a joy to watch.

With five drawers of varying widths and heights, along with a convenient top shelf for frequently-used items, this display case offers ample storage and organization options.

Its compact size and portable nature make it versatile for use anywhere at home, adding a touch of ‘Zen’ elegance and sophistication to any space.
