‘Choba Tansu / Dansu (帳場箪笥)’ is a chest of drawers placed in the casher register of a merchant’s house to store important items needed for business, such as money, valuables, and account books. Many of the items are hidden inside boxes or other tricks, so that they cannot be easily discovered in the event of a theft.

Though this Japanese antique chest is small in size as a Choba Tansu, the construction of the sliding doors is sturdy with thick horizontal bars, and it overall has a robust appearance.

The aged colours and textures of the Tansu are well harmonised with the iron frame.
