The ‘Choba Tansu’ or ‘Dansu (帳場箪笥)’ serves as a chest of drawers strategically placed near the cashier’s register in a merchant’s house, storing essential items crucial for business operations, including money, valuables, and account books.

Opening the impressive front doors with their sturdy metal fittings reveals a total of 20 trays, once used to organise coins and notes at the Marchant cashier. Each tray still bears labels indicating where coins or notes should be stored, preserving the essence of its past use.  It’s a testament to the Tansu’s rich history and the lives it has touched over the years.

The study metal joints on the front doors are neatly arranged in an orderly manner, adding to the Tansu’s dignified appearance.

Despite its compact size, this tansu exudes a sense of elegance and sophistication, bringing a calming presence to any room it graces. Its thoughtful design and meticulous craftsmanship contribute to its overall appeal, making it a versatile and functional addition to any space.
